Hi-hat plays open when it should be closed

Calibrate the hi-hat pedal on your drum module. That calibration lives in the module, not in iQuantize — the app reads whatever the module reports.
iQuantize distinguishes open, closed and pedal hi-hat, and folds half-open articulations onto the nearest of those. If open and closed feel reversed or stuck after recalibrating, check the pedal cable.
The fix, step by step
- Open your module's hi-hat or pedal calibration routine. Every brand has one; the name varies (“HH Calib”, “Pedal Offset”, “Hi-Hat Adjust”).
- Follow it with your foot fully off the pedal, then fully down, as the module asks.
- Test: pedal up should sound open, pedal down should sound closed, and a sharp press should give you the pedal chick.
- If it is still reversed or stuck, reseat or replace the pedal cable — a partly-seated connector is a common cause.
- Then confirm in iQuantize that the three hi-hat drums respond as expected.
How iQuantize reads the hi-hat
Modules report the hi-hat in one of two ways, and the app handles both.
Separate notes. Most kits — including the Alesis Nitro Max — send a different MIDI note for open, closed, pedal chick, half-open and splash. iQuantize maps all of them, folding half-open and splash onto open or closed so that a real hit is never silently dropped.
One note plus a pedal controller. Some modules, notably the Alesis Crimson II and 2box DrumIt, send open and closed on the same note and distinguish them purely by pedal position. iQuantize ships specific profiles for those modules that read the pedal controller — without one, every hi-hat hit would read as the same drum.

Common questions
Is there a hi-hat calibration inside iQuantize?
No, and there should not be. Pedal calibration is a hardware measurement your module performs on its own sensor. The app's own calibration is a different thing entirely — it measures audio and MIDI timing so scoring is accurate.
My half-open hi-hat does not score.
It should — half-open articulations are mapped onto the nearest of open or closed rather than ignored. If a hi-hat articulation is genuinely doing nothing, check the mapping in the Pad MIDI Mapper.
